A special celebration, this September

Posted in Events, From Father Stan, Parish life, PNCC on August 5th, 2010 by admin – Be the first to comment

Sunday, September 19th will mark a special celebration in our parish family…

This year our parish family will get stronger — Stronger by the presence of the Holy Spirit being strengthened in five of our young people.

As we all (those old enough, of course) have the power of the Spirit within our lives through our Confirmation, so shall it be true for this class.

We will welcome our Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Anthony Mikovsky, making his second visit to our parish within his short tenure as Ordinary. In so doing, we also need to plan for the days’ response. The parishes of our Seniorate have been invited to participate, gracing us with their presence and prayer.

Please keep this afternoon open and partake of the grace, ecclesiology, and witness we will have to share.

Monday – Friday – CONVO 2010 at Monmouth University, West Long Branch, NJ.

Youth from all over our Church will be assembling this week to study, pray, worship, have fun, fellowship, probably eat and sleep (although past experiences put these two in question). Please keep all of our youth and the 190 others who will be uplifted, loved, and taught during this week.

Thanks also to all of you who had either donated money for snacks, made snacks, provided for snacks for all the participants. And, again, for, lo, these many months, thank you for your sacrifice in allowing our youth to attend this great event. God bless you all!

Registration forms and information have been received for the youth events happening this year.

Diocesan Acolyte Retreat – June 27-30 – Bishop Hodur Retreat and Recreation Center, Waymart, PA.

All of our acolytes are encouraged to attend this year’s Retreat. Hopefully, We will be able to participate in the entire schedule this year. The parish covers the registration fee and travel expenses. Please see Father Stan for more information.

Even though this year’s Retreat is not being hosted by our seniorate, Father Stan has nonetheless been asked to provide a talk for one of the days.

“KURS” Church Camp

The 2010 edition of KURS will be held from July 1 – July 10, also at the Retreat Center. Fees for this Camp have not yet been posted, but will be so in the near future.

CONVO 2010

The deadline for registration is June 1. We are a bit short in the necessary funding to send all who would like to go, as always has been the practice of this parish to pick up the registration fees for its youth. We still need, however, to honor the closing date. Your generosity and ideas in this regard are appreciated.

The list of the anticipated attendees for the CONVO includes our Confirmation class of seven students, four parish youth, and three chaperones. If there are any additions or deletions from this list, we need to make them in the next week for $285.00 for each on the list is due by June 1st.

Our Parish family came together to assist Hannah Bilinski in her Scouting project. Her work and the Parish’s generosity are on display at the Spring Farm CARES website.

Food and homemade flannel blankets were delivered to Spring Farm CARES a not-for-profit organization that goes well beyond the typical definition of a shelter or animal resure organization. They are the world’s first “public center for animal communication.”

Thank you!!!

T H A N K S for your support to complete a project of the National United Youth Association: You are all to be highly praised and thanked for your contribution towards the completion of this most ambitious project of the national Youth Association.

We have now, for the second year, joined with other concerned parishes of our Holy Church, to pool our funds and with a great concerted effort complete this task. Please know that your worthy donations will soon be mingling with those of the rest of the Church to aid some village somewhere in this planet to achieve self-sustenance and to perpetuate the skilis to continue to maintain a healthier way of life and a promise for those who will follow in this village.

Therefore, TODAY please take humble pride in knowing that you have done a great work for someone in this world, who will only have a thought of you to give you thanks. Thanks!!!

TO DO: on the Solemnity of the Christian Family

In the ministry of parenting and being children in a family, there are ways of working in family traditions or just a way to “lighten up” the family experience. Remember, being a family in the coming millennium takes some work; consider the following:

  1. Rent a funny movie and watch it together.
  2. Put a funny message on your telephone answering machine.
  3. Play a game of “Pictionary” with your family.
  4. If you have a home video camera, make a family “music video” to send to relatives. Make outrageous costumes, use household times as musical instruments, and lip sync a rock and roll record. Let the kids be the lead singer(s).
  5. Make ice cream sundaes for desert, but secretly make them with a scoop of mashed potatoes instead of ice cream.
  6. Hide love notes in your teenager’s underwear drawer.
  7. Write a note to your child/parent on his/her bed with jellybeans.
  8. Organize your family’s personal quest for the “world’s greatest pizza” by visiting every pizza place over the next two or three months.
  9. Come up with your own family holiday to celebrate once a year, like “National (your family name) Day”. Make it a day in the middle of the week (like the third Wednesday of October each year when everyone can cut school and do something fun together as a family.
  10. The best activity to do as an entire family: celebrate Holy Mass together each Sunday. It is one of the “glues” that keeps the Christian family strong not only in your home but in our culture.

May God bless your family activities together!!!
