Experience Unwavering Faith and Community Spirit

A Faithful Community in Schenectady, New York, dedicated to nurturing faith and love.

When people hear the word Catholic, they may picture an old church, a distant city across the sea, strict rules, and formal worship. But the Catholic Church is over 2,000 years old and is much more than that. It is a universal and enduring faith, lived and expressed in many different ways.

Many churches identify as Catholic, including the Orthodox, Oriental, Roman, and our National Catholic Church. Like these, the the National Catholic Church shares in the richness of the Catholic tradition while offering a welcome and accessible path of faith.

Here, you will find a community that supports your relationship with God, with one another, and with the wider world. We hgather regularly for worship and pplace a strong emphasis on proclaiming and teaching God's Word as found in the Holy Bible.

We are also democratic in how we are organized. Every member has a voice and a vote in the life of the parish and the broader church. We are committed to transparency and accountability to all our members.

Holy Name of Jesus professes the faith of one, holy, catholic, and apostolic church.

We worship primarily at Holy Mass every Sunday, which is held at 10 am and 12 pm. We also hold special liturgies that lift up and bless our families, the work of our hands, and God's gifts of food and nature. We place a special emphasis on proclaiming God's word as found in the Bible and teaching based on His Word. Through this cycle of worship and study, we all grow in our relationship with God and his family. We honor cultural traditions in our worship, which eriches it.

What to Expect

We are a Catholic church that welcomes all people searching to deepen their relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

Sunday Holy Mass is celebrated at 10am and Noon. The 10am Mass is Contemporary with music and hymns (about 1 hour). Noon Mass is Traditional (about 40 minutes).

Daily Holy Mass on Tuesdays through Fridays is generally celebrated at Noon (about 30 minutes).

We welcome parents and their children. The sound of children in church is the sound of praise!

All are invited to Coffee Hour after the 10am Holy Mass for refreshments and fellowship.

What to Wear

Casual respectful dress is perfectly fine. God wants us to be comfortable in His presence.

For the Kids

School of Christian Living (Sunday School) classes are held each Sunday following Holy Mass and snack time. All children are welcome and encouraged to attend. The curriculum is designed to expand their understanding of the readings they hear in church and is multi-aged. Specialized catechism classes are taught to those preparing for First Communion and Confirmation.

We believe in fully supporting families. We have week-long camp each summer and a biennial youth convocation. All expenses are paid for by the parish.

Making a Difference

There are many ways to be involved in parish life. This includes ministry as a lector, greeter, singing in the choir, or becoming a member of the ladies’ or men’s service organizations, or volunteering for the Daily Bread Food Pantry or CarePortal or engaging in any of the community programs we take part in.
