Bible Study for the Second Week of Lent

  • 3/8 – Joshua 14,15 – Can I remember an instance in which God rewarded me for fidelity to him? Prayer starter: God, you who keep promises, help me to keep my promises to you. No matter what the challenge, help me to remain faithful to you.
  • 3/9 – Joshua 16-18 – Has God pitched his tent next to yours? Prayer starter: O God, you have tented in our midst. Help us to encounter you daily.
  • 3/10 – Joshua 19,20 – Are there people in my life who need me to provide a place of asylum for them? Prayer starter: God of justice and mercy, help me to practice justice tempered by mercy. Help me to seek safe asylum in you my protector.
  • 3/11- Joshua 21,22 – Can you reflect on how you may have misinterpreted other peoples’ actions? Prayer starter: Forgiving and reconciling God, help me to imitate you in all my actions toward others. Help me to avoid jumping to conclusions ahead of time.
  • 3/12 – Joshua 23 – How do I care for the land on which I live? Prayer starter: God, you have gifted me with the whole universe. Help me, my family, and my community be good stewards of this precious gift.
  • 3/13 – Joshua 24 – Do I cherish the gift of faith handed on to me? How do I receive it? Prayer starter: Come, Holy Spirit of God, and renew in me my vow of covenant. Help me daily renew my fidelity to you.
  • 3/14 – Judges 1,2 – When have I abandoned God and what were the consequences? Prayer starter: Merciful God, I know I have sinned against you. Please forgive me and help me to change my ways.

Bible Study for the First Week of Lent

  • 3/1 – Joshua 1 – When does God call me not to fear and to rely on him? Prayer starter: O God of the covenant, as I serve you and your people, teach me to rely on you completely. Help me to keep the covenant I have with you.
  • 3/2 – Joshua 2 – Have I experienced God working through unlikely people in my own life? Prayer starter: Gracious God, you provided for your people from the dawn of creation. Help me to trust in your providence especially when I see your hand at work in unlikely people, places, and situations.
  • 3/3 – Joshua 3, Joshua 4 – What memorials do you have that remind you of God’s activity in your life? Prayer starter: Gracious and compassionate God, help me to see your presence in all the crossings in my life. Help me to recall that you made these possible.
  • 3/4 – Joshua 5, Joshua 6 – Do I trust in God’s promises even when they seem arbitrary? Prayer starter: Almighty God, yours is the victory. Help me believe and trust in you completely in the battles of my life.
  • 3/5 – Joshua 7:1-11,24-26, Joshua 8:26-35 – How does my individual sins affect the entire community? Prayer starter: O forgiving God, I thank you for your mercy and forgiveness when I fail. Thank you for renewing your promises to me and help me renew mine to you.
  • 3/6 – Joshua 9, Joshua 10 – How often do I accept violence because culture condones it? Prayer starter: Creator God, you who created everyone in your image, help me to be critical of whatever opposes the dignity of all peoples. Help me to defend and support the innocent victims of violence.
  • 3/7 – Joshua 11-13 – Do you realize that the piece of creation on which you live is a gift of God? Prayer starter: God of creation, you have gifted us with the earth and the entire solar system. Help us to be faithful and responsible stewards of this fragile earth.
